Viszlay Vineyards is a small family owned and operated boutique winery in the northeast corner of the Russian River Valley. John Viszlay was in Shopping Center Management in Chicago and had a dream to move to warmer California and open his own winery. He purchased this 10 acre vineyard south of Healdsburg in 2010 and his daughter Abby and son Tony soon joined him. The vineyard, originally planted in 1997, has 12 different varietals planted including the only Prosecco in Sonoma County.
John quickly became a winemaker after he moved in and now produces about 1200 cases a year of a wide variety of wines. He has a 1300 square foot winery building that can hold 150 barrels, plus large open topped fermenting tanks. An indoor tasting room is included in the building and there is a very comfortable patio out back overlooking the vineyard and a wonderful place to relax, sample the wine and enjoy the outdoors as you look across the vineyard to the hills in the background.
John and Abby will greet you as you enter and offer you a taste of their wine. The hospitality of Viszlay Vineyards is outstanding and makes you feel very comfortable as you enjoy the wines. Everyone who was there when this reporter visited was certainly having a good time.
